Marketing and PR Intern

Position Begins October 2019

We are looking for a highly-motivated, clear communicator to assist the SNC team with marketing, public relations, and promotional communications. Applicants for this position must have strong verbal and written communication skills as well as ample knowledge of social media platforms.The SNC Marketing and PR Internship position provides opportunities for portfolio expansion, real world experience, and project based non-profit marketing. As an intern, you must be flexible and able to work well in a team environment, pitching in where help is needed. Through research, trend and market analysis, interns will develop hands-on experience in marketing and public relations. University credit may be available. Possibility exists to extend position through the spring.

Job Type: Internship
10-15 hrs a week
Reports to: Executive Director 

Note: This is an unpaid internship. Your time at SNC will be supporting incredible programs that provide quality nature education to people of all ages.

General Responsibilities:

  • Capture and manage information from email campaigns

  • Assist with marketing content development and support other marketing activities

  • Learn and maintain the visual identity standards of Stokes Nature Center’s brand

  • Assist with the design and execution of marketing materials including flyers, brochures, event materials, ads, web banners and more

Social Media

  • Design and implement Facebook campaigns promoting SNC general program, vision, and mission.

    • Provide weekly updates to supervisor

  • Maintain Instagram presence

    • Provide weekly updates to supervisor

  • Maintain and update google profile, research SEO

    • Provide weekly updates to supervisor

  • Seek new ways of advertising and stay up-to-date with current marketing trends

Community Calendars: 

  • Keep all upcoming events posted on relevant community calendars, both online and in physical locations.       

Merchandise:

  • Track and manage merchandise orders both in person and online

  • Maintain inventory and supply of all merchandise

  • Ship purchased items in a timely manner

  • Research and develop new merchandise based on current market trends

Other Tasks as Required:

  • Examples of other tasks may include being present at events to document and share with the public

Qualifications:

  • Experience: writing, editing, proofreading and communications skills and graphic design 

  • Familiar with social media advertising strategies

  • Familiar with Canva, Google Drive, and Microsoft Office

Specific Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required

  • Strong communication skills, writing skills and reasoning skills

  • Motivated, self-starter with an ability to prioritize time-sensitive assignments

  • Advanced knowledge of social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat.
