Nature Center Host Intern:

The Nature Center Host is assigned with the responsibility of maintaining a welcoming atmosphere for visitors which nurtures curiosity and encourages learning by actively involving and engaging patrons with hands-on exhibits, local wildlife, flora & fauna information, and SNC programming.

Responsibilities Include:

Visitor Experience

  • Welcome public to Nature Center.

  • Answer visitor questions about Nature Center & exhibits.

  • Answer questions about SNC education/interpretive/community programs

  • Answer visitor questions about Logan Canyon history and destinations, local trail information, and local flora & fauna

  • Answer phones and assist with light office work

  • Register interested visitors for programs

  • Track visitors and maintain actual use data.

  • Report visitor observations and suggestions

  • Opening and closing the Nature Center


  • Maintain cleanliness of Nature Center, including cleaning and restocking restrooms and exhibit area as needed

  • Maintain brochure rack supplies, outdoor information wall, and event chalkboard

  • Maintain outside area around Nature Center

Critter Care & Exhibits

  • Cleaning, feeding, and care of animals, and their terrariums

  • Assist in the preservation of exhibits as well as creation of new exhibits


  • Assist or conduct SNC’s weekly Nature Tales program

  • Assist or conduct SNC’s weekly Canyon Conversations program

  • Assist Naturalist Educators with programs scheduled within the Nature Center

  • Operate Nature Center while Naturalist Educators are conducting programs

  • Conduct informal tours of exhibits

  • Assist with group tours and presentations


  • Assist other staff as needed

  • Assist with special events and projects

  • Attend weekly staff meetings

  • Attend Facilities Committee meetings

  • Other duties as assigned and agreed upon

Required Skills:

  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Public relations and customer service skills

  • Appreciation and understanding of environmental education and natural environment

  • Able to communicate effectively with a diverse public

  • Patient and friendly

  • Independent and responsible

  • Assist with both indoor and outdoor programs.

  • Able to stand for long periods.

  • Able to lift 20 pounds


This is an unpaid internship. This position will require no more than 15 hours per week. Schedule will vary week to week and applicants must be able to work Saturdays.

Our Mission is to provide nature education, promote outdoor exploration, and foster appreciation and stewardship of our natural world for people of all ages.
