Call for Photographers!
Stokes Nature Center (SNC) and the Logan Canyon National Scenic Byway organization are proud to announce the Logan Canyon photography contest. This contest is open to all ages with special prizes for youth photographers.
Deeply cut, nearly vertical limestone walls, spectacular fall foliage, and free-flowing Logan River make Logan Canyon a well-loved and highly visited destination in Northern Utah. The Logan Canyon scenic byway offers access to hiking, fishing, hunting, skiing and other activities. In sponsoring this contest, SNC and the Logan Canyon National Scenic Byway organization seek to stimulate interest among photographers and nature-lovers to capture various aspects of this natural treasure. SNC will use the photo entries to develop a photo bank of Logan Canyon for educational exhibits and programs.
We especially encourage submissions of wildlife, geology, plants and water features. The best photos from each of these categories will be featured in an exhibit in the spring. Professional photographers will act as judges.
We will accept photo entries from Sept 21 through December 15th. Winners will be announced in January 2009 and following prizes awarded:
1st prize overall: $300.00 gift certificate to Inkleys
2nd prize overall: Epson All-in-One NX400 color photo printer (donated by Staples)
3rd prize overall: $100 gift card for framing supplies
Youth prizes: 3 winners under 18 will be awarded a copy of the National Geographic book featuring Logan Canyon, “Last Unspoiled Place” by Michael S. Sweeney plus an 18-ticket package for photography classes at Inkleys valued at $270.00.
Winning photographs as well as a selection of other entries will go on display in early 2009. Details on dates and location are forthcoming.
Additional rules:
- Entrants can submit no more than 5 photographs.
- Entries should be high resolution jpgs. Unscanned photos should be submitted with a $5.00 scanning fee. Digital images should be at least 4 million pixels. Unscanned photos should be glossy and no smaller than 8 x 10 inches.
- Employees of Stokes Nature Center and their families are not eligible for prizes.
