Non-Profit Operations Internship - Fall 2017

Established in 1997, Stokes Nature Center is a non-profit nature education facility located in the Cache National Forest in Logan, Utah. Our mission is to promote exploration, provide education, and foster appreciation and stewardship of our natural world for people of all ages.

Description

As the Operations Intern, you’re key to the nuts and bolts of the organization. You’re a mover and shaker, and eager to learn. You will learn how to efficiently and successfully implement projects and initiatives. You will help us manage our project research and development. You will assist in the planning and implementation of program operations. You will bring a fresh energy to promote team building. You will gain an overall understanding of how a non-profit functions, from the day-to-day operations, to internal and external communications, to overall strategic planning. You may also have the opportunity to learn how to plan, design, and implement one of your own ideas.  This is an ideal way to gain a more comprehensive look into the day-to-day workings of a non-profit.  As an intern, you must be flexible and able to work well in a team environment pitching in where help is needed. University credit may be available.

Job Type: Internship

15-20 hrs a week

 Responsibilities

General Operational Support

  • Assist SNC Directors in organization operations

  • Assist in cohesive project planning and implementation

  • Work to ensure that all communications accurately and persuasively present the vision, mission and values of SNC

  • Answer the office telephone and make follow up phone calls

  • Provide additional administrative support as needed

  • Update the website, develop IT systems as needed

  • Assist with donor tracking, donor acknowledgement and database management

Volunteer Coordination

  • Learn and assist in volunteer recruitment and coordination including facilitating volunteer events

  • Facilitate volunteer orientations

Qualifications

An ideal candidate for this position will be highly organized, very personable, has an eye for detail, is an astute problem solver, and is both flexible and self motivated. A successful intern will demonstrate a real interest in project and operations management.The Non-Profit Operations Intern must be responsible, dedicated and organized. This experience is a great opportunity for someone interested in a job in nonprofit administration, development, or community organizing.

Specific Skills:

  • Strong time-management, organizational and research skills.

  • Quick learner with the ability to self-motivate  

  • Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel) and social media platforms

  • Motivated, self-starter with an ability to prioritize time-sensitive assignments

  • Ability to work on multiple projects and willingness to see the importance of the details

Marketing and PR Internship - Fall 2017

We are looking for a highly-motivated, clear communicator to assist the SNC team with marketing, public relations,  and promotional communications. Applicants for this position must have strong verbal and written communication skills as well as strong knowledge of social media platforms.The SNC Marketing and PR Internship position provides opportunities for portfolio expansion, real world experience, and hands-on project based non-profit marketing. As an intern, you must be flexible and able to work well in a team environment pitching in where help is needed. Through research, trend & market analysis, interns will develop hands-on experience in marketing and public relations.University credit may be available.

Job Type: Internship
15-20 hrs a week

Responsibilities

  • Capture and manage information from email campaigns

  • Assist with marketing content development and support other marketing activities, including updating presentations, creating proposals, and other duties as assigned by the SNC team

  • Learn and maintain the visual identity standards of Stokes Nature Centers ‘brand’

  • Assist with the design and execution of marketing collateral including flyers, brochures, event materials, ads, web banners and more

  • Support all Marketing efforts

Social Media

Social Media responsibilities include:

  • Design and implement Facebook campaigns

    • Provide reports at weekly staff meetings of FB insights

  • Maintain Instagram presence

    • Provide reports at weekly staff meetings of Instagram insights

  • Seek out new ways of advertising and stay up-to-date with current marketing trends

Community Mailer Fall/Winter :

  • Assist in designing and structuring SNC Community Mailer

  • Minor edits and seasonal updates to an existing template

Upload Community Events to Community Calendars:

  • Check in with staff about upcoming events to add to online community calendars

Qualifications

  • Experience: writing, editing, proofreading and communications skills and graphic design (InDesign)

  • Skills: Strong communication skills, writing skills and reasoning skills

Specific Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required

  • Motivated, self-starter with an ability to prioritize time-sensitive assignments

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel PowerPoint, etc.), social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat.
