High School Beginner Backpacking Camp

  • Second Dam Drop-off Loop US-89 Logan, UT, 84341 United States (map)

This beginner backpacking course is for high school students only. Your child must be entering grades 9-12 in order to participate. While this is an introductory course, please note that backpacking in general is a physical challenge. Our days will include 3-6 miles of hiking each day while wearing a pack up to 1/3 of our body weight. The expedition takes place over 4 days in Cache National Forest and students will learn everything from how to travel as a group, to how to practice Leave No Trace, to navigating using a map and compass.

The student to instructor ratio for Backpacking never exceeds 4:1, with at least two instructors per group.

In order to uphold our dedication to safety, the group will be carrying satellite communication equipment, both instructors will have appropriate medical certification with at least one instructor being a certified Wilderness First Responder with a full medical kit, and group skill will determine group challenge. This course is meant to be safe, fun, and educational, in that order.
