Stokes Nature Center is hiring a Community Engagement Specialist!
The Community Engagement Specialist works under the supervision of the Director of Education to develop and lead community based programs, including the supervision of the Stokes Nature Center Volunteer Program, assisting with school programs, and developing and leading new community programs.
This is a part-time hourly position approximately 20-30 hours per week. This position often requires work on weekends and evenings.
Position is open until filled, with interviews expected to start the week of August 25th and an expected start date of September 2nd.
Education Programs and Volunteer Management:
Recruit, train and manage individual volunteers, including Nature Center Hosts, Citizen Scientists, Education and Outreach Volunteers.
Occasional hosting of the nature center as needed.
Coordinate outreach within the community at local community events including, but not limited to: Gardeners Market, World Refugee Day, Bear River Free Fishing Day, etc.
Coordinate yearly City Nature Challenge event.
Be a lead instructor on programs for community partners and organizations including the Scouts, Common Ground, student groups, etc.
Assist when a second instructor is needed on school field trips.
Manage free Logan Canyon Children’s Forest (LCCF) programs which include weekly Nature Tales and once a month Canyon Adventures.
Special Projects:
Assist SNC staff with special events including attendance at the events, gathering donations for the annual Light up the Night Gala and Earth Day Trivia Night, fundraising, and advertising.
Develop new community programs as time and community need dictates.
Train ongoing Citizen Science projects including pollinator surveys and lead surveys as needed.
Oversee and manage the SNC Google Ad words and Google analytics data.
Manage merchandise inventory and orders.
Partnerships:
Assist the Director of Education as needed to maintain strong relationships with current community partners, and seek out and foster new partnerships within the community including program support, sponsorships and donations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in education, science communication, community engagement or other related field preferred though not required.
2-4 years of experience developing and implementing community based programs.
Excellent writing, and public speaking skills.
High comfort level teaching and leading activities in an outdoor setting.
Ability to communicate science in an understandable way to children and adults of diverse backgrounds.
Compensation:
20-30 hours per week - $15/hour
