Nature Center host
If you want to be part of a friendly and engaging atmosphere this volunteer position could be a good fit! You will be welcoming visitors at our nature center and nurturing active learning by engaging patrons with hands-on exhibits, local wildlife, native plants, trail information and SNC programs. More established volunteers, such as retired teachers, professionals, or college students with flexible schedules make exceptional Nature Center Hosts as they are able to share their wealth of knowledge and insights with visitors of all ages.
Responsibilities Include:
Inform visitors about Stokes Nature Center, our programs, events, membership, and volunteer opportunities
Provide information on Logan Canyon - the history, hiking trails, flora & fauna
Register interested visitors for programs
Light office work - track visitor information, answer phone calls, report visitor observations & suggestions
Maintain the center's brochure rack, bulletin board & event chalkboard
Use a Point of Sale device
Accept donations
Possibly be involved with merchandise sale
Required Skills:
Able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
Able to effectively communicate with a diverse public and maintain exceptional customer service skills
Demonstrate an active appreciation and understanding of environmental education and natural environment
Maintain a patient and friendly demeanor
Capable of being independent and responsible without direct supervision
Able to stand for long periods
Able to lift 20 pounds
Willing to take and pass a background check
A volunteer orientation is required for all volunteer positions. To become a Nature Center Host, a 1 hour orientation and initial training are required. Volunteers will then be able to shadow a staff member to complete their training. We ask that volunteers interested in this position are able to dedicate a minimum of 8 hours per month to hosting.
